About Us

Rachel's Story
Founder & Creative Director, Jaipur Joy.
My name is Rachel Joseph and my story began, 18 years ago, when I first started working with a Kashmiri family who invited me to visit their home. My first trip to India took me to Dal Lake in Srinagar and the artisans of Kashmir, where I got to see a way of life with craft at its heart, which resonated deeply.
I started my Indian textile company in London where I set about sourcing and working with the artisans who make and manufacture the wonderful array of beautiful hand crafted fabrics that India is so well known for and created a collection for my London shop.
During this time I gave myself an apprenticeship of sorts, where I set about learning how to make clothing that I want to wear, using everything I had at my disposal in India and from my background in the field of decorative arts. My first brand was Noor, my eco brand, which had a focus on working with eco printers, who were hand block printing in a very low impact on the environment technique using mostly natural dyes and inclusive sizing.
But following the end of the pandemic I felt led to create a joyful brand, in colour and print, and with affordability at its heart. I starting working with the wonderful array of screen prints that are available in Jaipur and used my experience in making clothes for women that aim to flatter and complement the female form, with an inclusive sizing.
I have now opened a new shop in Langport, Somerset, where you can find all of my other brands and wonderful range of homeware and gift ideas.
I have always keenly felt that Fashion should be made fair, from the staff team that produce each garment to the printers who hold to a low impact on the environment philosophy to the customer who purchases the chosen finished garment.
At Jaipur Joy, we take our responsibilities seriously as a fashion brand. We actively put people and planet before profit. We are part of the Ecologi family and are committed to offset our carbon footprint by planting trees and supporting projects around the world which are designed to lower carbon emissions.
We favour natural fibres and organic cottons where possible.
Each individual garment carries its own provenance, often with details about the printers who made the fabric, the techniques used and the tailors who stitched the garment. In this way we hope that value will be attached to each individual textile and garment in our collection and that it will become a treasure as it becomes part of your wardrobe.
